Lead sheet is one of the most durable roofing materials available and has been used for centuries. It can be used in a number of different ways and if fitted correctly can be extremely long-lasting and provide exceptional performance. At Pro Roofing we are lead work specialists and are fully accredited members of the Lead Contractors Association. We are committed to providing a friendly, welcoming service, whilst at the same time offering lead work that meets our own professional, award winning standards.
Lead roofs are made by laying sheets of the metal onto timber substrates. A full roof structure survey is conducted before we begin any roofing work. If any structural work needs to be carried out our team have all the necessary carpentry skills to do this. Lead sheeting is given a code number representing its weight and thickness. Code 7 sheeting, for example, are large sheets used on older roofs, that can be found on listed buildings. The number indicates the lead weighs 7lb per square foot. Our experienced team have the knowledge to help you decide on the best code of sheeting for your roof.
Lead sheet can be used as an entire roof covering or to strengthen areas such as roof joints and guttering. Lighter sheets of Codes 4 & 5 are used for flashing around these areas. Patching up areas of a deteriorating area of a roof with lead sheet can improve the roofs performance and years to its lifespan. We also repair damaged and decayed lead work. Lead work is incredibly strong and does not damage easily, however if fitted incorrectly it is liable to rupture and split.
Inadequate fixings and the use of over-sized sheeting are just a few of the possible causes of damage when lead work is poorly fitted. If only minor splits and tears are evident these can be easily repaired. However, more serious and extensive failures may require lead work renewal.
